Review of Kindle wireless reading device DX – from an actual user of DX Kindle wireless reading device?

The DX was not an update obvious to me, but two features put me over the edge: the larger screen, and the native PDF reader. Now I have the DX in my hands, and can report pros and cons, and neutrals:

PROS:

– The larger screen is an advantage. I can use the larger font size in my Kindle 2 (older eyes), and in this font I can get the text much more per page in the DX. This makes the whole reading experience more book-like (and should be a boon for people who buy books in large print.)

– The screen is also sharper and sharper than my Kindle 2 in a side by side comparison: the text is darker, and the contrast is much better, so for better visibility in general.

– On a side note, the screen larger also makes it possible to read poetry in the Kindle, but in large sizes. The Kindle before, the smaller screen to cut the lines, so you would lose the sense that the poet put an end to the line. In the DX, you can see the whole line exactly as the poet meant, with the cut line in the right place.

– The PDF reader works as advertised, and is very easy. PDF documents appear on the DX exactly as they do on a computer screen. By Moreover, you can drag and drop documents directly to the device through the USB cable (or use the email-a post-if absolutely necessary.) The only drawback: at least for the documents I have used so far, I can not adjust the font size you can with native document Kindle.

– Rotation display also works as advertised: it works as a smooth zoom in both text and graphics and slightly offsets the disadvantage of not being able to adjust the documents typesize PDF. A nice design touch: the four-way navigation stick inserted in the Kindle 2 is sensitive to rotation, and moving as expected in relation to the rotation of the screen.

– More space is devoted to device screen, while the white plastic border around the screen appears to have decreased both overall and in comparison with the proportion of the plastic screen on the Kindle 2. I like this (but see below on the keyboard).

– Storage: I like the increased storage space, and do not mind the lack of an external storage card. I can see some people having problems with this, but only those that or a) should take about PDF documents totaling more than 3.5 GB of space or b) should have about 3500 books regularly reach. I fall into neither category.

CONS:

– Price is expensive, as you can tell fairly quickly. If you value the larger size, and the reader Native PDF, these features may justify the premium about 30% you pay for the DX for the Kindle 2. Indeed, the DX should cost more than the Kindle 2 is not is, and a premium of 30% unreasonable. But for my money, Amazon should drop the price on the Kindle 2 to $ 300 or less, and charge $ 400 or a little less for the DX. Still, I bought it and keep it at this price.

– Navigation buttons on one side: all the buttons are on the right side, and none is on the left. Am a skilled, so you should not complain, but I met with both parties on the Kindle 2. The lefties have reason to complain, I think.

– Use a single hand: I often read while I walk with my Kindle in one hand, and something more in my other. Because of the layout of the buttons, this will be more difficult in the DX.

– Metal Music: I miss the sticky rubber on my Kindle back in January. When I put my Kindle in January on an inclined surface, remained in place. Not so my Kindle 2 and now my DX. This is not a specific complaint to DX, but still there.

NEUTRAL:

– Weight: DX is heavy, so significantly. This is only a matter of if, like me, you regularly use the Kindle with one hand. . . and yet is still within reach.

– Keyboard: The keyboard has four rows, and 5: the top row of numbers 1 and 2 Kindle has been merged in the top row QWERTY, so the numbers are only accessible with ALT-key. The keys are thinner vertically as well, so that the entire keyboard is only a "high (compared with more 1.5 "in the Kindle 2). At the same time, the keys themselves are a little easier to press, a little more prominent than in the Kindle 2. For someone with large fingers (Like me), this will be a keyboard a little more difficult to use, but only slightly.

That's all I can see. In general, the advantages outweigh the cons for me, and I am satisfied with my purchase. Now I can think of using my DX for working papers on a regular basis due to the PDF reader. The screen size and rotation screen that the overall reading experience more immersive.

In general, the DX feels more like text and less like device and comes closer to the stated objective the Kindle: for the device to disappear, leaving only the pleasure of reading.
