Has anyone tried Amazon’s new wireless tech device, Kindle, for downloading and reading books?

I would love to try this, but the price of $399 scares me to death, especially if there is no way to examine one in person before ordering. Will wait until a later model comes out, hopefully with the prices down. But in the meantime, I would love to hear feedback from anyone who has had experience with this new “toy.” (Or who know of people that have tried it out.)

You can buy a decent laptop for $400 and read ebooks on it (among other things)
